The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its steadfast commitment to local vaccine manufacturing and improving healthcare across Nigeria.

GAVI’s Chief Executive, Dr. Sania Nishtar, expressed this commendation during her inaugural visit to Nigeria, where she also lauded the efforts of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Ali Pate, and the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Muyi Aina, for their dedication to enhancing health outcomes in the country.

During a reception held by the Federal Government and alliance partners in her honor, Nishtar underscored Nigeria’s crucial role in GAVI’s healthcare mission, emphasizing the close relationship between GAVI’s achievements and Nigeria’s healthcare advancements. Nishtar also commended President Tinubu’s support for GAVI’s plan to launch the African Countries Vaccine Manufacture Initiative later this year, highlighting Nigeria's strategic importance to GAVI's objectives and reaffirming ongoing support for President Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare workforce.

Dr. Aina, representing Prof. Pate, confirmed the release of the Federal Government’s counterpart fund, demonstrating a strong commitment to fulfilling healthcare obligations. He described Nishtar’s visit as a testament to the robust support for Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system. During her visit, Nishtar engaged in advocacy meetings with notable figures, including Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, the Sultan of Sokoto, and prominent traditional rulers from the North.
