Senate President Godswill Akpabio has suggested that some street protests against the rising cost of living in Nigeria are sponsored, implying that protesters may not be fully aware of the efforts made by the Senate and the Federal Government to address the situation.

Speaking in the Upper Chamber, Akpabio highlighted the Senate's efforts to tackle the issue and mentioned reports of State Governments receiving additional funds from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to alleviate the food situation.

Akpabio emphasized the importance of State Governments utilizing the additional funds effectively to ensure food availability. He also reassured that the National Assembly would only approve measures that benefit the citizens. Despite these efforts, protests have continued in various parts of the country, including Ibadan, Niger, Kano, and Sokoto States, reflecting the widespread concern over the economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.

The Senate President's remarks suggest a concern about the efficacy of protests and the need for better communication regarding government efforts to address economic hardship. The mention of additional funds allocated to State Governments underscores the government's attempts to alleviate the food crisis. However, the persistence of protests indicates ongoing dissatisfaction and a call for more tangible solutions to improve living conditions for Nigerians.

It is essential to note that protests are a form of expression protected by the constitution and often reflect genuine grievances. While acknowledging the efforts of the government, addressing the root causes of economic challenges and engaging with protesters' concerns remain crucial for fostering public trust and addressing socio-economic issues effectively.
