Senate President Godswill Akpabio remarked on Wednesday that the country's security situation has significantly improved since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023. Akpabio made this statement during a debate on a motion concerning recent killings in Benue State, noting a decrease in major killings nationwide despite the recent attack in Benue being an anomaly.

Senator Emmanuel Udende (APC–Benue North-East) sponsored the motion, emphasizing the state government's role in utilizing security votes to protect lives and property in Benue State. Akpabio expressed concern over the lack of immediate response from the Benue State government following the attack, highlighting the need for collaboration between state governments and security operatives.

Akpabio assured that President Tinubu supports the Armed Forces and is committed to addressing security challenges. He pledged the Senate's cooperation with the President and the House of Representatives to develop resolutions benefiting the entire country. Akpabio described the recent attack in Benue as an aberration and promised to restore normalcy to the affected areas and support the victims.

The Senate passed resolutions honoring the victims of the attacks and called on the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and other security agencies to deploy personnel to the affected areas promptly. Additionally, the Senate agreed to compile all resolutions related to killings across the country for submission to President Tinubu.
