Government Vows Radical Cost-Cutting Measures in Construction Sector Revamp

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to reducing the high cost of construction projects and procurement in Nigeria. Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Musa Dangiwa, made this known in Abuja during the inauguration of a 15-member board of the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN). He urged the new board to avoid conflicts of interest and to use their expertise to achieve cost reduction.

Minister Dangiwa emphasized the importance of the construction sector in driving employment and economic growth, highlighting the role of Quantity Surveyors. He urged the board to uphold principles of integrity, transparency, and fairness in their work, ensuring accurate project cost representation and acting in the best interests of clients and the public.

QS Onasile Oluwole, speaking on behalf of the new board, pledged their commitment to serving the public and contributing to the development of the built environment in Nigeria. He called on the Ministry to engage Quantity Surveyor firms for consultancy, emphasizing inclusiveness in nation-building. The new board comprises experienced professionals dedicated to advancing the Quantity Surveying profession in Nigeria.
