Governor Mbah Vows Sanctions for Schools and Businesses Complying with IPOB’s Sit-at-Home Order

Mbah

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has announced that his administration will sanction schools, businesses, and financial institutions that complied with the two-day sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The announcement came after a joint press conference on Monday, led by Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, and security chiefs following a tour of the affected areas.

Governor Mbah emphasized that the Enugu government will impose penalties on public and private institutions that adhered to the sit-at-home order, insisting on zero compliance with illegal directives. "For those who chose not to show up, they will be adequately sanctioned," Onyia stated.

The sit-at-home order, declared by IPOB’s factional leader Simeon Ekpa, disrupted economic activities in parts of the South-East. Affected sectors include schools, markets, and financial institutions, leading to partial shutdowns in some areas.

The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), through its President-General Goodluck Ibem, expressed concerns over the economic damage caused by repeated sit-at-home orders and called on President Bola Tinubu to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. COSEYL believes Kanu's release would halt the ongoing economic disruption in the region.

Ibem added, "This madness must stop. The region cannot continue to suffer from orders issued by faceless individuals causing hardship and stagnation."
