Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reinstated Chief Jonathan Zamuna as the paramount ruler of Piriga in Lere Local Government Area, citing the crucial role of traditional institutions in stabilizing the state and the nation. Zamuna was dethroned by former Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i on May 22, 2023, just before the end of El-Rufa’i’s tenure.
Announcing the reinstatement on July 4 during a meeting with the State Council of Chiefs, Governor Sani highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in governance and security. He emphasized that his administration aims to involve citizens in decision-making, with traditional rulers being key influencers deserving respect and attention.
Governor Sani acknowledged the resilience of traditional institutions and their close connection to the people, stating that it is essential for all levels of government to collaborate with and respect these institutions. He reassured the chiefs of his commitment to rule of law and his respect for traditional values that positively shape the state.
The governor also addressed the challenges of insecurity and banditry, assuring that his administration is focused on improving security across the state. He outlined ongoing efforts to enhance military presence in vulnerable areas and emphasized the continued importance of collaboration with traditional rulers in maintaining security and fostering community development.
