Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving the lives of residents in 2025 by addressing economic challenges and ensuring social stability.

In a New Year statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Governor Makinde outlined his administration’s plans to increase residents' spending power, ease economic strains, and execute key infrastructure and policy initiatives.

Key Projects for 2025

Speaking during the Crossover Service held at Livingspring Chapel International, the governor highlighted several ambitious projects for the new year, including:

  • Upgrading Ibadan Airport, Alakia, to international status.
  • Completing the first segment of the Ibadan Circular Road.
  • Continuing education and public enlightenment campaigns.

Governor Makinde also promised stricter enforcement of traffic laws and enhanced public safety measures across the state.

Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Resilience

The governor acknowledged the difficulties faced by Oyo State residents in 2024, including economic hardships and tragic incidents such as the Bodija explosion and the Islamic High School stampede that claimed several lives.

“These challenges tested our resilience as a people and government. We responded by enacting policies like Executive Order 001, 2024, on the Safe Handling and Storage of Harmful Substances and by supporting affected families,” he said.

Makinde emphasized that these experiences had strengthened the government’s resolve to create a safer, more prosperous state.

Economic Reforms and Investments

The governor outlined his administration's efforts to transform Oyo State into an economic hub. Initiatives included:

  • Attracting major investors such as Africorp Consortium and Shell Nigeria Gas.
  • Completing the first phase of the Independent Power Project in partnership with Elektron Energy.
  • Launching the second agribusiness industrial hub in Eruwa.

“These projects aim to create jobs, boost private sector participation, and uplift residents from poverty,” Makinde added.

Optimism for 2025

Governor Makinde assured residents that 2025 would bring positive changes, urging them to support his administration’s vision for the state.
“We are determined to take decisive actions that will improve your economic well-being and prevent avoidable disasters. This year will be a turnaround for us as a state and as individuals,” he concluded.

Residents of Oyo State welcomed the governor’s message with optimism, expressing hope for a prosperous year ahead.
