At least 11 worshippers, including an Imam, were abducted by unidentified gunmen during the early morning Subhi (dawn) prayer at a mosque in Bushe community, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, has left residents in a state of shock and despair, as the gunmen have been terrorizing the community for some time.
Security Forces Intervene
Residents confirmed that troops of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies responded swiftly, preventing further escalation of the attack.
The Sokoto State Police Command has also confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are underway to rescue the kidnapped victims.
Police, Lawmakers React
The Sokoto State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Rufai, stated:
“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are working towards rescuing the abducted individuals and ensuring the safety of residents.”
Additionally, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, representing the Sabon Birni B Constituency, confirmed the attack and praised security forces for their timely intervention.
