Chaos erupted in the Chikakore community of Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as gunmen stormed the area late Sunday evening, abducting five residents, including a family of three.
The attackers, armed and disguised as vigilantes, targeted the Health Centre extension axis of the community around 11 p.m., deceiving residents to gain access to their homes. Among the abducted victims were Adesiyan Akinropo, his wife, son, a visitor, and a neighbor, according to local sources.
The attack left a woman severely injured with a deep head wound, and she is currently receiving treatment at Kubwa General Hospital.
Residents expressed frustration over the late response of police operatives, who reportedly arrived at the scene over an hour after the gunmen escaped.
A local resident said, “The bandits have resumed attacks in Chikakore. We need a police division here. We already have a five-bedroom apartment ready to house them, but there’s no deployment yet.”
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, revealing that the gunmen deceived their victims into opening their gates before carrying out the attack. The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that a comprehensive search and rescue operation is underway to recover the victims and apprehend the assailants.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency lines.
