Suspected gunmen killed three policemen and set their vehicle ablaze during an early morning attack in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Thursday, October 3. Although the state police confirmed the deaths of two officers, local residents reported that three officers lost their lives in the violent encounter.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen ambushed the officers, firing sporadically before throwing an improvised explosive into their vehicle, which caused it to catch fire. The area has been troubled by violence, with kidnappings and killings escalating over the past year.

Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the attack, stating that the Joint Security Forces (JSF) had launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. He called on the public to assist with any information that could help the investigation.
The police command is intensifying efforts to restore security in the region, urging residents to cooperate with the authorities as they hunt down the attackers.
