The House of Representatives clarified over the weekend that there is no bill currently before it proposing a return to regional government, whether as a private member's bill or an executive bill. Spokesman Hon. Akintunde Rotimi emphasized in a statement that the circulating proposal on social media has not been submitted to the House Committee on Constitution Review as a memorandum.
Rotimi dismissed claims that the House had rejected or disowned the bill, explaining that it was never presented before the House in any form. He elaborated on the process of proposing constitutional amendments, which can be initiated by a member's bill, individual or group memoranda submitted to the Constitution Review Committee, or an executive bill from the government.

The House encourages open and progressive debates on national improvement and stresses that the constitution review process involves multiple stakeholders to reflect the collective will of Nigerians. The 10th Assembly prioritizes inclusion and engagement, ensuring all voices are heard in the constitutional review.
