Ibadan-based broadcaster Peter Olasupo has been summoned by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) over allegations of criminal defamation and cyber-stalking. The broadcaster revealed this in a Facebook post on Sunday, stating that the invitation requires his appearance at INTERPOL Headquarters in Abuja.
Olasupo shared that he initially received the letter on December 30, 2024, with an initial reporting date of the same day. However, his legal representative, Barrister Yomi Ogunlola, successfully secured a rescheduled date for Monday, January 13, 2025.
Expressing surprise over the allegations, Olasupo wrote:
“I am innocent of these allegations. At the moment, I don’t have full details of the matter, but I will present myself at their office and fully cooperate with INTERPOL’s investigation.”
He also questioned the rationale for being summoned to Abuja rather than a closer location, such as the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Oyo State or Lagos. Highlighting the logistical challenges, he quipped about the cost of travel and the lack of provisions for allowances.
Despite the summons, Olasupo reassured his followers of his commitment to truth and professionalism:
“To my fans, please know that this will not affect my dedication to doing the right thing or my professionalism. I remain committed to speaking the truth to those in power.”
The broadcaster’s appearance at the INTERPOL office is expected to shed light on the allegations and their origins.
