The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has praised the police athletes who represented Nigeria at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana, for their outstanding performances. The IGP commended the athletes for distinguishing themselves across various sporting events, bringing immense pride to the Nigeria Police Force and the country as a whole.
During a reception for the athletes, the IGP, represented by the Force Director of Sports (FSO), CP Patrick Atayero, likened the African Games to a continental Olympics. He highlighted the significance of young and talented police sportsmen and women showcasing their skills, passion, determination, and courage on such a prestigious stage to emerge as medalists.
The success of the Police Athletes at the 13th African Games, held from 8th to 26th March 2024, shortly after the 14th Biennial Police Games (Oluyole 2024) in Ibadan, is seen as a testament to the effectiveness of the Force's sports development initiatives. Medalists like Inspr. Aisha Adamu, Sgt. Mohammed Inuwa, Sgt. Emmanuel Bala, and others demonstrated exceptional skill in various sports including arm wrestling, athletics, badminton, mixed martial arts, swimming, and hockey, garnering 1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals for Nigeria.
The IGP expressed appreciation for the dedication, hard work, and commitment to sporting excellence demonstrated by the police athletes. He noted that their collective success serves as an inspiration to other police officers, aspiring athletes, and the nation at large, highlighting the inestimable potentials across Nigeria.
