I’ll decide my future with Man United after World Cup — Fernandes

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made it clear that he won’t be discussing his future with any club until after the 2026 World Cup.

The 31-year-old midfielder is set to make his 300th appearance for United this weekend as the team looks to bounce back from three consecutive home defeats.

Fernandes, whose current deal runs until 2027 with an option for an extra year, reportedly has a clause allowing him to move to a club outside England for £56.6 million (€65 million)—but only if triggered within a certain timeframe.

Speaking ahead of the match, Fernandes said:

“As I’ve always said, I feel good here. I still have dreams I want to achieve.

I can’t speak for the club. I’ve seen people saying I already have an agreement to leave next season. If such an agreement exists, it wasn’t made with me.

My agent knows how I work—if he wants to talk to me, it will be after the World Cup. Until then, I’m not speaking to anyone.”

The Portuguese star admitted that he had conversations with several people when news of Al-Hilal’s interest first surfaced, including United officials, Portugal coach Rúben Amorim, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays in Saudi Arabia.

While the offer from Al-Hilal was financially massive—reportedly over £100 million, which would have been a record sale for United—Fernandes said the club never pressured him to leave.

“Amorim told me, ‘We want more players to help you, not to lose you.’ If they bring in players but lose me, the team still loses something,” Fernandes explained.

The United captain also mentioned that his family is very comfortable in Manchester:

“My family feels great here. My kids love their school and the life we have here, even with the weather. Sometimes we say our home here feels more like home than the one in Portugal.”

He added that his wife once asked if he had achieved everything he wanted at United — a question that made him reflect deeply.

“She knows I haven’t,” he said. “When I talk about not fulfilling my dreams at this club, a lot of it comes from that conversation.”
