Imo State Police Arrest Man for Possession of Illegal Firearm and Drugs

In Imo State, a 31-year-old man named Micheal Uzondu was arrested by the state police command on Tuesday, April 30, for possessing a locally made pistol illegally. The arrest took place during a raid on a criminal hideout at No 1 Chidiobi Street, Site and Services, World Bank Layout, following intelligence reports.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, the suspect, who hails from Amimo in Ikeduru local government area, confessed to purchasing the pistol from a gun-runner in Ugirike, Ikeduru LGA, for self-protection. The police also found a suspected hard drug substance in his possession.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has called on residents to assist the police with actionable information to tackle the proliferation of illicit firearms and ammunition, which poses a significant threat to the state's peace and security. "The Police are working to apprehend the dealers and manufacturers of locally-made guns," he stated.

After a thorough investigation, the suspect will be arraigned in court to face charges related to his unlawful possession of the firearm and drug.
