The Imo State Police Command Anti-Kidnapping Unit has successfully apprehended a notorious kidnap kingpin, Aralu Chukwudi Charis, aged 40, hailing from Otolo in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The arrest, led by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, was the culmination of a well-coordinated operation based on credible intelligence, which pinpointed the suspect's location to Mgbidi in Oru East LGA of Imo State on Monday, April 13, 2024.
Aralu Chukwudi Charis, alias the suspect, was known for orchestrating numerous kidnapping and armed robbery operations in Imo State. Upon his arrest, he was promptly paraded at the command’s headquarters in Owerri. Among the items recovered from his hideout was an Ash-Coloured Toyota Camry, 2005 model, with registration number MUS 509 DS Lagos, which had reportedly been snatched from a victim.
Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesman, informed newsmen that the suspect had confessed to being the mastermind behind a dangerous criminal syndicate that had been terrorizing the people of Imo State. He also stated that the suspect provided crucial information that will aid in the arrest of other members of his syndicate who are still at large.
Okoye emphasized that a thorough investigation is ongoing, and upon its completion, the suspect will be arraigned in court to face charges related to his criminal activities. The successful operation highlights the commitment of the Imo State Police Command to combatting crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents in the state.
