The Osun State Government has confirmed the arrest of over 100 foreigners entering the state without valid travel documents. This development follows the recent apprehension of suspected ISWAP members during bomb-making training in Ilesa.
Operatives of the Nigerian Immigration Service carried out the arrests, with support from the state government, which provided vehicles to transport the individuals. A senior security source, who preferred anonymity, noted that the arrests were made at an undisclosed location to maintain security and avoid public apprehension.
Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the development in an interview with The Nation. He revealed that the arrests occurred weeks before the capture of suspected ISWAP members and assured residents that the state government is proactively addressing security challenges.
“Security is a sensitive issue, so we cannot disclose all details,” Alimi said. “However, we are on top of the situation. The governor, alongside our security chiefs, is working tirelessly to ensure Osun remains the safest state in Nigeria.”
He added that the state is enhancing the Amotekun Security Network to bolster its effectiveness in addressing threats.
Alimi also commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for raising alarms about potential banditry in the Southwest and reaffirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains committed to safeguarding Osun residents.
“Osun State remains proactive, leaving no stone unturned in security matters. Our state is and will remain one of the safest in the country,” he stated.
This development underscores the heightened security measures in the Southwest following alerts about potential threats from criminal elements in the region.
