Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists launched a devastating attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing several Nigerian soldiers and leaving many others missing.
The attack occurred on Saturday, January 4, 2025, around 4:00 am and lasted over two hours. Security sources revealed that the terrorists destroyed numerous buildings and military operational vehicles during the assault.
> “25 Taskforce Bde was attacked during the weekend with so many casualties. So far, we have recovered over seven bodies,” a source told SaharaReporters.
The attack targeted FOB Sabon Gari, with ISWAP fighters reportedly using an array of heavy weapons.
ISWAP's Growing Strength
Since the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has expanded its influence, particularly in areas around Lake Chad. The group has attracted hundreds of defectors from Boko Haram, bolstering its ranks and intensifying its attacks on military and civilian targets.
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism in the country. However, the group’s activities continue to displace millions and claim lives across Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states, underscoring the ongoing challenges in the fight against insurgency.
