Jigawa Governor Imposes 24-Hour Curfew Amid Protest Violence

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has imposed a 24-hour curfew following the outbreak of violence during the first day of nationwide protests. Describing the situation as unfortunate, the governor announced the curfew in a state broadcast on Friday.

In a bid to maintain religious observance, the governor approved a temporary relaxation of the curfew on Friday, allowing residents to attend Juma’a prayers from noon to 2:30 p.m. Namadi emphasized the need for peace and stability, urging the public to adhere to the curfew.

The governor condemned the escalation of the peaceful demonstration into violence and looting, asserting that such behavior is not part of the state's culture. He vowed not to let the chaos continue unchecked.

Namadi assured citizens that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, will take necessary actions to protect lives and property from miscreants and hoodlums. The situation will be closely monitored to ensure the safety of all residents.
