The Joint Security Force (JSF) has conducted a successful raid on the camp of gunmen who recently attacked two police stations and killed officers in Anambra state. The operation, which took place in Ogbunka, Orumba North local government bush, led to the recovery of six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and walkie talkies. The attacks by hoodlums targeted police stations in Awgbu, Orumba North, and Neni, Anaocha LGAs, resulting in the death of two policemen and the burning of stations.
Following these incidents, Police Commissioner Aderemi Adeoye and the JSF team launched a raid in response. Anambra police spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, stated that the security forces had previously destroyed similar camps in Ogbunka, Orumba South LGA, and Achalla, Awka North LGA. During the recent raid on Ogbunka forests, the JSF discovered scattered camps used by the insurgents.
The statement released on Saturday in Awka highlighted the success of the raid, with the criminals fleeing in the face of the onslaught. Along with the six IEDs and two Walkie Talkies, substantial food and groceries supply were also recovered from the camps. All the camps were subsequently destroyed to prevent further attacks. The security forces continue their efforts to eliminate the insurgents, rescue abducted victims, and recover firearms and stolen vehicles in their possession, with the raid ongoing.
