Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a stern warning to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, indicating a possible indefinite adjournment of his trial if further delays occur. Kanu's lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, had presented conditions for his client's trial to proceed, including the restoration of his bail, relocation from DSS custody, and unrestricted access to legal counsel.
However, the prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), objected to these demands, labeling them as frivolous and unmeritorious. Justice Nyako scheduled a ruling on Ejimakor's requests for May 20 but emphasized the need for progress, insisting that the prosecution should start its case by calling witnesses on the same day.
Justice Nyako expressed frustration with the delays, stating, "You cannot continue to hold the court to ransom." She warned of the consequences of adjourning the trial indefinitely and urged Kanu's legal team to make a decision promptly. The court proceedings were briefly halted to allow Kanu, his legal team, and relatives to deliberate on their next course of action.
