Kaduna APC Supports Probe into Ex-Governor El-Rufai’s Financial Deals

Kaduna

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has voiced its support for the Kaduna State House of Assembly's decision to investigate the financial activities, particularly loans acquired, during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The APC Publicity Secretary in Kaduna, Salisu Wusono, hailed the probe as a positive step.

Similarly, the Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has endorsed the investigation. The state Assembly recently established a 13-member panel to scrutinize the administration of El-Rufai.

This probe comes after Governor Uba Sani expressed concerns about the substantial debt left by the previous administration, which has impacted the state's finances, making it challenging to meet salary obligations. Despite these challenges, Governor Sani reaffirmed his commitment to steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.

The APC Publicity Secretary emphasized that the party and Governor El-Rufai are committed to the rule of law. He highlighted the importance of the probe in clarifying the financial situation inherited from the previous administration. The suspension of the Kaduna APC Women Leader, Maryam Suleiman, for criticizing Governor Sani's remarks underscores the sensitivity of the issue within the party.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna NLC Chairman, Ayuba Suleiman, called for the probe to extend to the unpaid severance packages of over 32,000 workers laid off during El-Rufai's administration. These workers include primary schoolteachers, state government and local government staff, primary health care staff, and others. Efforts to reach Governor El-Rufai for comment were unsuccessful.
