The Kano State High Court has issued an ex parte order restraining the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, from representing himself as a party member. Following this order, Ganduje is also prohibited from overseeing the affairs of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC.
This legal development came after an ex parte motion filed by Dr. Ibrahim Sa’ad on behalf of two executive members of Ganduje’s ward in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area. The plaintiffs, Assistant Secretary Laminu Sani and Legal Adviser Haladu Gwanjo, were among the nine ward executives who suspended Ganduje on Monday.
The court's directive, granted by Justice Usman Na’abba, orders all parties involved, including the APC, NWC, APC Kano State Working Committee, and Ganduje, to maintain the status quo as of April 15, 2024. This order will remain in effect pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit scheduled for April 30, 2024.
Furthermore, Justice Na’abba's ruling prevents the State Working Committee of the APC in Kano from interfering with the decision made by the executives of Ganduje's ward, which was supported by a two-thirds majority as stipulated by the party's constitution. The order prohibits Ganduje from portraying himself as an APC member or engaging in any activity that suggests his membership in the party.
