The Kano State Police Command has announced a ban on all Sallah Durbar celebrations ahead of the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr festivities, citing security concerns and potential unrest. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, made the announcement at a press briefing on Thursday at the Bompai Police Headquarters.
CP Bakori explained that intelligence reports had revealed plans by certain groups to disrupt the Durbar celebrations, which could lead to instability in the state. After consultations with the Kano State Government and other relevant stakeholders, the police deemed it necessary to prohibit the event to prevent any security breaches.
“Following credible intelligence reports about plans to use the Durbar as a cover for unrest, a ban has been imposed on all Durbar activities across the state during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations,” Bakori said.
He reassured the public that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, would ensure that necessary measures are taken to guarantee the safety of all citizens during the Sallah festivities. Bakori urged worshippers to hold Eid prayers only at designated prayer grounds and adhere strictly to security protocols, including avoiding unnecessary objects that may raise suspicion. He also emphasized that activities such as horse riding, car racing, or reckless driving would not be tolerated.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to keep their children from engaging in disruptive activities. We advise the public to avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace or lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he added.
The Commissioner further assured residents that adequate security personnel would be deployed across the state to maintain peace and order during the celebrations. He urged the public to prioritize peace and unity during this joyous occasion.
CP Bakori also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police via emergency contact numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926, or through the NPF Rescue Me application.
In closing, he reiterated the commitment of the police to maintaining law and order and called for the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration in Kano.
