The Kano State Government has called for full compliance with the recent Court of Appeal judgment upholding its Emirate Council reforms and validating the restructuring of the state’s traditional institutions.
During a press conference at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano on Saturday, key officials, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Ibrahim Adamu; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Musa Bello; and Commissioner for Information, Hon. Halima Yusuf, highlighted the judgment’s significance.
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, overturned earlier Federal High Court decisions, affirming the legality of the Kano State Government’s law on chieftaincy appointments and restructuring. “All decisions, pronouncements, and orders made by the Federal High Court in this matter have been quashed and set aside,” said Hon. Adamu.
The government described the ruling as a landmark victory for constitutional governance and traditional harmony, urging stakeholders to respect the judgment and ensure its implementation.
Hon. Musa Bello emphasized the importance of cooperation, stating, “This ruling ensures peace and fairness in Kano. We call on all authorities to uphold this judgment for the collective good of our state.”
Hon. Halima Yusuf expressed the government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while advancing modernization. “This marks a turning point in harmonizing tradition with progress,” she said.
The government reassured citizens of its dedication to unity and development, urging all parties to prioritize stability and the rule of law.
