Kano State Police Command to Enforce Court Order Against Newly Created Emirates

Kano

The Kano State Police Command has announced its intention to enforce the court order restraining the state government from dissolving the five newly created Emirates.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Hussain Gumel, during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on Saturday.

Gumel emphasized the importance of adhering to the rule of law and assured the public that the police would ensure the enforcement of the court order. He stated, "We are committed to upholding the court's decision and maintaining peace and order in the state. The court order restraining the state government from dissolving the newly created Emirates will be enforced strictly."

The court order came amid a political tussle in the state, following the recent amendments to the Kano State Emirates Council Law. The amendments had led to the dissolution of the five Emirates established by the previous administration, and the reinstatement of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was deposed in 2020.

Commissioner Gumel's statement is a clear indication of the police command's commitment to ensuring that legal processes are respected and followed. "We call on all parties involved to respect the court's decision and refrain from actions that could lead to unrest," he added.

The police commissioner also reiterated the force's dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state, urging citizens to remain calm and law-abiding.
