The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Halilu Yusuf, for allegedly kidnapping a six-year-old boy in Katsina. The police spokesman, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, briefed the press on Wednesday, detailing the circumstances of the arrest.

On August 17, around 2 p.m., the police, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Yusuf in Gezawa, near Shinkafi village. The suspect is accused of luring and kidnapping the young boy, who is the son of his mentor, from the Kofar-Sauri quarters. Yusuf then demanded a ransom of N2 million from the boy's father.

ASP Aliyu explained that the suspect initially kept the boy in his room overnight before moving him to another location. Unbeknownst to Yusuf, police operatives were tracking his movements. Yusuf made an anonymous phone call to the boy's father, informing him of the abduction and the ransom demand.

Upon receiving the report, the police swiftly mobilized a team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of GRA, Katsina, to handle the case. The operatives successfully traced and arrested the suspect, rescuing the boy unharmed.

During the investigation, Yusuf reportedly confessed to the crime. The police spokesman confirmed that the suspect will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
