The Katsina Police Command has refuted claims made in a viral video on social media showing a security agent allegedly shot dead by a police officer during a protest. ASP Sadiq Abubakar, Public Relations Officer of the Katsina Police Command, clarified in a statement that the video was misleading and taken out of context.
Abubakar explained that the individual in the video was an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who fell from a patrol vehicle due to an accident at the protest scene. The officer was promptly taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina, treated, and discharged.
The police urged the public to disregard the misinformation and verify facts through official channels. They emphasized the strong cooperation between security agencies in Katsina to maintain public safety and order. The statement reaffirmed the commitment to professionalism and continuous efforts to ensure peace and stability in the state.
This clarification comes after the Katsina State Government imposed a curfew and banned street protests since August 2 following violence during the exercise.
