The Kebbi Government has disclosed that it has utilized more than N21 billion for purchasing and distributing palliatives, farm inputs, and providing financial support to improve the livelihoods of its people. Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad-BK, the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed this during a briefing with Journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
Ahmad-BK emphasized the state government's commitment to providing essential interventions to enhance food security, empower individuals, support farmers, and provide free sustenance to the populace. He also highlighted the government's efforts in combating the menace of migratory birds by spraying over 4,000 litres of chemicals and operating numerous flight hours to protect agricultural yields from pests.
Additionally, the government distributed fertilizers worth N2.6 billion to farmers at no cost to boost productivity and national food security. To further support farmers and reduce operational costs, N8.5 billion was spent on procuring solar-powered water pumps, pump conversion kits, power tillers, and motorized sprayers. These initiatives aim to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability in the state.
Ahmad-BK also mentioned the procurement of hundreds of truckloads of grains worth billions of Naira, which were distributed free to people across the state for Ramadan fast. He expressed dissatisfaction with the recent comments from the opposition regarding the palliative looting incident and the resignation of the Chief Imam of the oldest Jumu’at Mosque in Birnin Kebbi, describing them as attempts to gain cheap political relevance.
