The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully neutralized four suspected kidnappers, arrested one, and rescued a 60-year-old man, Umaru Bawa, in Suru Local Government Area. The operation also led to the recovery of ₦3 million, which had been paid as ransom.
According to CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the command's spokesperson, the incident occurred on February 14, 2025, when armed men abducted Bawa from Gobiraje village. Acting swiftly on the report, the Suru Divisional Police Officer mobilized operatives and local vigilantes, tracking the suspects to Tundafari Forest.
A gunfight ensued, resulting in the neutralization of four kidnappers and the arrest of one, who sustained fatal injuries. The remaining suspects fled with gunshot wounds, while Bawa was rescued unharmed.
CP Bello M. Sani commended the officers for their bravery and swift action, reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating crime and maintaining peace in Kebbi State. He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to support ongoing security efforts.
The police emphasized the importance of community cooperation and urged the public to contact law enforcement via dedicated hotlines to aid in crime prevention.
