A high-level Kebbi State delegation, led by former governor and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, recently met with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa to address the urgent security situation posed by the emergence of a new terror group, Lukarawas. The delegation, which included Sen. Bala Ibn Na’Allah and APC National Organising Secretary Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, urged the military to intervene swiftly to prevent further violence and stabilize the region.

Gen. Musa assured the delegation that the military is committed to taking all necessary actions to neutralize the group and restore peace. Lukarawas, recently reported by the Defence Headquarters to have infiltrated Sokoto and Kebbi States from Niger and the Sahel, launched a brutal attack in Kebbi's Augie Local Government Area last week, resulting in 15 fatalities.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) expressed deep concern, calling on the Federal Government to decisively combat Lukarawas. ACF emphasized that the group’s activities, including recruitment through coercion and monetary incentives, represent an escalated security threat in Nigeria’s Northwest. They warned against any leniency, citing the insurgent history of Boko Haram and advocating immediate, forceful action to prevent Lukarawas from entrenching itself in local communities.

In a statement, the ACF urged an expanded multinational response, with Niger Republic’s involvement crucial to addressing cross-border terrorism. They also called for enhanced intelligence gathering, local engagement, and collaborative security efforts involving traditional and religious leaders to deter local support for terror groups.

The Kebbi delegation’s meeting with Gen. Musa and the ACF’s strong stance signal mounting pressure on national security agencies to intensify operations and prevent Lukarawas from gaining a foothold in Nigeria’s Northwest.
