Kogi Vows Justice After Bandits Kill Three in Iluke School Attack

The Kogi State Government has pledged to track down and prosecute the bandits responsible for the deadly attack on Iluke community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, where three people lost their lives during an attempted school invasion.

The assurance was given on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, who described the incident as a tragic assault on innocent residents and the state’s peace.

According to the government, the attackers, disguised in military uniforms, stormed the community and disrupted an ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination. Reports indicate that the armed men had begun forcing students into the bush before security operatives arrived and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

Fanwo said the swift intervention of military personnel, local vigilantes, hunters and other security operatives prevented what could have become a large-scale abduction of students.

“Owing to the superior firepower, professionalism and courage of the security agents, all the students were successfully rescued unharmed and returned to safety,” he stated.

He added that one of the bandits was killed during the exchange of gunfire, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The commissioner praised the security forces for their bravery and sacrifice, noting that their actions saved many lives and averted a major tragedy.

Fanwo disclosed that security agencies have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and are intensifying efforts to ensure everyone connected to the attack is arrested and brought to justice.

He also assured residents that the government is working closely with security agencies to strengthen security in the area and prevent future attacks.

While expressing condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Iluke community, Fanwo urged residents to remain calm and support security agencies with useful information.

“Let it be clearly stated that Kogi State will not submit to terror. Criminal elements seeking to undermine the peace and security of our state will continue to meet a determined, coordinated and uncompromising response from security agencies and the government,” he said.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and promised additional security measures in vulnerable communities.
