In a significant political shift in Kano State, former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has welcomed thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The former Kano governor made the announcement on Friday via his official X handle, noting that the event took place at his residence in Kano, where jubilant crowds gathered to witness what party insiders described as a "powerful homecoming."

“Yesterday was a momentous occasion, as I received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),” Kwankwaso wrote.

He pledged equal opportunity and full integration for the new members, assuring them of the party’s inclusive ethos and commitment to their political aspirations.

“Our distinguished leadership style in Kano and growing political strength continue to attract well-meaning Nigerians,” he added. “I encourage others considering joining our movement to do so without hesitation.”

The mass defection is seen as a blow to the ruling APC in Kano, as Kwankwaso seeks to reposition the NNPP ahead of future electoral battles, potentially reshaping the political landscape in one of Nigeria’s most politically strategic states.
