Ibrahim Idoko, National Vice-Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) for North-Central, rebuked Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, for asserting that the movement surpasses the party’s influence. Tanko, in a recent Arise News interview, suggested that the Obidient Movement, founded on principles of good governance and accountability, might explore other political platforms by 2027 if the Labour Party does not align with its values.
Idoko, dismissing Tanko’s claims as opportunistic, argued that the Labour Party’s accomplishments predate the movement, referencing historical successes such as the two-term governorship of Olusegun Mimiko in Ondo State and the recent election of Governor Alex Otti in Abia State. He highlighted notable politicians elected under the LP banner, including Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Senator Joshua Dariye.
"The Labour Party has a strong foundation and history, and Tanko’s remarks are simply an attempt to gain relevance. If he and his allies choose a different path, so be it," Idoko stated. He expressed confidence that under Barr. Julius Abure’s leadership, the party would continue to gain strength and make significant strides in the 2027 elections.
Reaffirming the support from North-Central LP chairmen, Idoko pledged full backing for Abure, aiming to elevate the Labour Party’s national presence and success.
