The Lagos State Government has declared Tuesday, August 20, 2024, as a work-free day for public servants to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration. The announcement was made through a circular issued by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro. According to the circular, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved the holiday to honor traditional institutions and promote indigenous culture within the state.

The circular stated that public servants are expected to resume work on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. It emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and supporting traditional institutions by providing a day off for the celebration.

Similarly, the Ogun State Government has also declared Tuesday, August 20, 2024, as a public holiday for the same purpose. In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the holiday will allow traditional worshippers in Ogun State to commemorate Isese Day, which celebrates traditional religious practices and beliefs.

The Ogun State Government highlighted the state's reputation for religious cohesion and harmony, urging traditional worshippers to celebrate in moderation and respect the rights of other religious groups. The statement also encouraged adherents to use the occasion to pray for peace and economic progress in both Ogun State and Nigeria, acknowledging the importance of prayers for the nation's success.

Both state governments have called for celebrations that foster unity and respect among all religious communities, reinforcing the cultural diversity and tolerance that characterize the regions.
