Lagos-Ibadan Expressway At Standstill After Multiple-Vehicle Accident Near Kara

Lagos-Ibadan

A massive traffic gridlock has brought the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to a standstill following a multiple-vehicle crash involving a container-laden trailer near the Kara axis, close to Berger Bus Stop. The accident, which occurred on the Ibadan-bound carriageway, has caused severe disruption, blocking several lanes and plunging the busy highway into chaos.

As of the latest update, emergency response teams, including cranes, are working tirelessly at the scene to clear the wreckage. Personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Police have all been deployed to manage the situation, though traffic remains heavily affected.

The gridlock extends beyond the 7Up area, impacting both inbound and outbound traffic, with some motorists resorting to dangerous maneuvers, including driving against traffic, further exacerbating the situation.

“I’ve been stuck in one spot for over two hours,” lamented Olamide Ajayi, a commuter headed to Ibadan. “People are stepping out of their cars. There’s no movement, and tempers are flaring.”

Eyewitnesses describe a harrowing scene at the crash site. “The trailer is jackknifed across the road, and several cars are crushed under its weight,” said Ugochukwu Nnaji, who witnessed the incident while en route to Berger. “It’s a complete mess.”

Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the Ojodu Berger axis and consider alternate routes. Those with urgent engagements are advised to delay their trips until the situation is cleared.

“We are doing our best to resolve the situation quickly and safely,” an FRSC officer at the scene assured. “We urge everyone to remain calm and cooperate with traffic officials.”

This incident is the latest in a series of traffic disruptions plaguing the already congested Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, underscoring the need for ongoing traffic management improvements.
