Lagos — The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has directed all courier and delivery service providers in the state to ensure their riders wear reflective jackets and fit their motorcycles or bicycles with visibility tapes during evening and night-time operations.
The directive, announced on Sunday, was issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Olawale Musa, through his Senior Special Assistant on Transport Education and Innovation, Mr. Oluwatobi Idowu. The statement was signed by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola.
Musa said the measure aligns with the government’s commitment to improving road safety and reducing accidents involving dispatch riders.
> “All riders operating between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. are instructed to wear reflective jackets, while all delivery motorcycles and bicycles must be fitted with reflective tapes or markers to ensure clear visibility on the road,” he said.
He added that delivery companies must sensitise their riders to the policy and ensure strict compliance, warning that enforcement agencies—including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS)—would sanction defaulters.
In response, Glovo Nigeria, one of the state’s leading delivery firms, pledged full compliance. In a letter signed by its General Manager, Mr. Lamide Akinola, the company commended the government for prioritising safety and announced plans to distribute 3,000 reflective vests free of charge to its riders within the next month.
> “We are encouraging other delivery service providers within the state to follow suit,” Akinola said.
The ministry welcomed the company’s gesture, stressing that sustained collaboration with courier and delivery operators was key to building a safer, more responsible delivery system across Lagos State.
