Lagos NPC Seeks UNICEF Collaboration for E-Birth Registration Campaign

Federal Commissioner for Lagos State in the National Population Commission (NPC), Saidat Oladunjoye, has called for increased collaboration with UNICEF on an enlightenment campaign for electronic birth registration in Lagos. This request was made during her visit to UNICEF’s Country Representative in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Oladunjoye emphasized that such collaboration would help NPC gather accurate data crucial for developmental plans. She praised UNICEF for its ongoing support, particularly in establishing electronic birth and death certificate registration systems.

“UNICEF has always been a partner to us, and they have promised further assistance,” Oladunjoye said. “They will print our birth certificates, provide more spaces at health centers, and help address challenges, especially in child immunization.”

She highlighted the NPC's longstanding role in birth registration since its establishment in 1988, ensuring functional registration centers across local governments. Currently, there are 142 centers in Lagos State, each aimed at improving the accuracy and efficiency of birth data collection.
