The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for commercial motorcyclists, known as Okada riders, following the killing of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) during a traffic enforcement operation in Agege. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, when the officer and his team were attacked while responding to a distress call near WEMCO Junction, Mobil Road.
According to eyewitnesses, the Okada riders were upset with the way the police handled the situation after a fatal accident involving one of their own and a trailer. In the ensuing chaos, the ASP was attacked and killed, while other officers managed to flee. Five suspects have been arrested, and efforts to apprehend more of the attackers are ongoing.

Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, describing the attack as "needless and uncalled for." He explained that the police team was trying to prevent the crowd from torching the truck involved in the accident when they were assaulted.
The police continue to investigate, while Hundeyin vowed that all those responsible for the officer's death would be brought to justice.
