The Lagos State Police Command has denied a newspaper publication dated April 17, 2025, which claimed that hundreds of Boko Haram suspects had been apprehended in the state. The police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified in a statement on Friday that the report was false and misleading.
Following the publication, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate investigation. The outcome revealed that there was no credible evidence of Boko Haram suspects being arrested or sighted anywhere in Lagos, including the trailer park communities mentioned in the report. Local leaders, operators, and drivers in the specified areas confirmed that no such arrests had taken place.
Despite the false report, the police deployed surveillance teams, including detectives from the Lagos State Police Intelligence Department (SID), to verify the claim. After thorough checks, no evidence of Boko Haram presence or arrests was found.
The police emphasized that the report was malicious and intended to create unnecessary panic. CSP Hundeyin urged residents to disregard the publication and assured them of their safety. He also called on the media to ensure the accuracy of reports before publication to avoid spreading fake news that could disrupt public peace.
Residents are encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the police control room at 08063299264.
