The Lagos State Ministry of Health has reported 29 deaths and 579 suspected cases since the cholera outbreak began two weeks ago. Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Health Commissioner Prof. Akin Abayomi attributed the high death rate to patients arriving late at hospitals or being brought in dead.
Abayomi noted that no cholera cases have been reported in schools. "For the past two weeks, we have recorded 29 deaths and 579 suspected cholera cases. The 29 deaths were caused by patients being presented late, preventing resuscitation," he said.
