On the second day of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, Lagos experienced a gradual return to commercial activities. The protests, which began on Thursday, August 1, saw a slow start with limited participation at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota. However, by Friday, businesses started reopening and commercial bus operations resumed, though banks, eateries, and fuel stations remained cautious.
Security was heightened across the city with patrols in strategic areas, including Ikotun and Egbeda Bus stops. The protests remained peaceful with demonstrators gathering at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park and chanting solidarity songs.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, praised the protesters for their peaceful conduct and emphasized the importance of maintaining calm. In a statement, Sanwo-Olu highlighted ongoing government measures to address the economic issues driving the protests, including food price reductions and medical outreach programs.
The governor also commended the security agencies for their professionalism and assured residents that the state remains safe. He urged Lagosians to continue their daily activities without fear, emphasizing that the government is committed to ensuring peace and stability.
