Lagos State's Ministry of Environment and Water Resources took action on Thursday, confiscating styrofoam food packs from markets in different local government areas. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab shared photos and a video of the operation on his social media handle, highlighting the ministry's efforts to enforce the ban on styrofoam packs.
The environmental enforcement team targeted shops in Ikorodu, Mosan Okunola, Badagry, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo, Somolu, Eti-Ota East LCDA, Eti-Osa, and other areas. Wahab emphasized that all seized items would be incinerated at Marini TLS in Bolade, Oshodi, urging Lagosians to discontinue the use, distribution, and sale of banned styrofoam packs.
This move aligns with the Lagos State Government's earlier announcement in January, declaring the ban on styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state. Following the crackdown, the ministry's Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, revealed that 169kg of styrofoam containers had been confiscated from various markets and delivered to Marini TLS for disposal.
