The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed the discovery of an apartment under the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, where tenants pay an annual rent of N250,000. The apartment, consisting of 86 partitioned rooms sized "10×10 and 12×10," was uncovered during an enforcement operation by the ministry's team.
Wahab shared this information via a post on X.com along with videos of the eviction process. He stated that the enforcement team successfully removed all structures, including a container used for various illegal activities, from beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge.
A Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, confirmed the eviction of illegal settlers from beneath the bridge towards Dolphin Estate in Ikoyi. He stated that 23 individuals were arrested during the eviction, which was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI).
Rotimi-Akodu noted that the bridge housed 86 rooms, partitioned into 10×10 and 12×10, with squatters paying an average rent of N250,000 per annum. He emphasized the dangers posed by the illegal settlement, including the use of wood materials, gas cylinders, and stored fuel for generators, which are potential fire hazards.
The eviction is part of the state government's efforts to clear illegal settlements and safeguard critical infrastructure. The government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing relevant laws and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in Lagos State.
