Former presidential spokesman, Laolu Akande, has expressed concerns over both President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima being out of the country at the same time. Speaking on Channels Television’s *Sunrise Daily*, Akande emphasized the importance of having at least one leader present to oversee governance.
Akande noted that while President Tinubu left for a two-week work leave in the UK on October 2, 2024, Vice President Shettima departed for Sweden on Wednesday for a two-day bilateral visit. He warned that such simultaneous absences could affect governance, despite reassurances from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga that both leaders remain engaged in national affairs.

Akande reflected on his experience serving as a spokesman, stating that during his eight years in office, the president and vice president rarely traveled abroad simultaneously. He recalled how previous leaders ensured that one was always present to manage governance, even cutting trips short when necessary.
Despite official assurances, Akande maintained that "the ideal situation" would be for one leader to remain in the country to handle pressing national matters.
