Late Drama at Goodison: Manchester United Stun Everton with Comeback Draw

Manchester United

Manchester United staged a thrilling late comeback to snatch a dramatic 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park, rescuing themselves from what seemed destined to be another painful defeat.

Everton, led by returning manager David Moyes, looked set for a dominant victory after Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure struck in the first half to give the Toffees a deserved 2-0 lead. United’s defense struggled under pressure, with Harry Maguire failing to react as Doucoure capitalized on a loose ball to head home Everton’s second.

However, United found a lifeline late in the second half. Bruno Fernandes curled in a brilliant free-kick in the 72nd minute, sparking hopes of a comeback. Eight minutes later, Manuel Ugarte fired in a powerful shot to level the score, stunning the home crowd.

The drama didn’t end there. Everton thought they had a golden opportunity to win when referee Andrew Madley awarded a late penalty after Ashley Young went down under Maguire’s challenge—but after a VAR review, the decision was overturned.

The result spares United boss Ruben Amorim from a ninth league defeat in 13 matches, as his side showed resilience to salvage a point in an otherwise tough night. Everton, meanwhile, will be left to rue missed opportunities after dominating for large spells but failing to close out the game.
