The League of Northern Democrats (LND), led by former Kano State Governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has constituted a technical committee to critically evaluate the four tax reform bills currently under consideration by the National Assembly.
According to a statement by the League’s spokesman, Ladan Salihu, the committee includes legal experts, tax specialists, and academics tasked with conducting a clause-by-clause analysis of the bills. The team has been given a one-week deadline to complete its review and submit recommendations.
“Given the current concerns surrounding the Tax Reform Bills, the LND has inaugurated a distinguished Technical Committee to ensure these laws reflect justice, equity, and national development,” Salihu noted.
The committee’s mandate involves identifying potentially harmful provisions, suggesting amendments, and ensuring the bills align with constitutional, cultural, and national unity principles. The findings will be publicly shared in an accessible format, allowing for broader engagement by policymakers, legislators, and the public.
The League reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for policies that promote fairness, sustainable development, and prosperity, particularly for Northern Nigeria and the nation as a whole.
