A tragic incident unfolded in Ondo State as 24-year-old Peter Adebayo allegedly killed his friend, Lekan Raji, using a cooking gas cylinder after consuming the dangerous substance known as colorado. The altercation reportedly began when Lekan questioned Peter's behavior, leading Peter to strike him on the head with the cylinder. The incident occurred on February 23, 2024, at Ireakari Street, Akure, according to Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, the police prosecutor.
Peter Adebayo was arraigned before an Akure Magistrate Court on a charge of murder. Inspector Oniyere explained that Lekan, upon returning home, was displeased with Peter's behavior and confronted him. However, Peter, under the influence of colorado, reacted violently, causing Lekan to fall and subsequently die from his injuries. The defendant's actions were deemed to contravene Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. 1 of Ondo State 2006.
During the court proceedings, no plea was taken from the defendant, and the prosecutor requested that Peter be remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Presiding Magistrate T. O. Olusola-Olujobi granted the prosecutor's request, ordering the remand of Peter Adebayo and adjourning the case to March 19, 2024, for further hearing.
