The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has instructed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to halt Dana Airlines' operations pending a thorough audit of its financial and health records. This decision follows an incident involving a Dana Air plane at Lagos airport on April 23, which necessitated the diversion of flights from the local to the international airport. According to reports, one of the airline's aircraft, with registration number 5N BKI, skidded off the runway at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday morning.
In a letter addressed to the Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, and delivered through the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Ministry of Aviation expressed serious safety concerns regarding recent incidents involving Dana Airline. The letter, titled "Immediate Suspension of Dana Airline Pending Safety and Financial Health Audit," emphasized the paramount importance of the safety and well-being of citizens and travelers. It directed the immediate suspension of Dana Airline's fleet until a comprehensive audit could be conducted, covering safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure compliance with aviation regulations.
The Ministry stressed the urgency of the situation and the need for swift and decisive action to protect the interests of all stakeholders.
