Mudashiru Obasa Reinstated as Lagos Assembly Speaker Amid Leadership Shake-Up

The Lagos State House of Assembly has reinstated Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, marking a dramatic twist in the state's legislative crisis.

Obasa was nominated by Hon. Noheem Adams (Eti Osa Constituency 1) and seconded by Hon. Nureni Akinsaya (Mushin Constituency) during a plenary session currently ongoing at the Assembly chambers.

Lagos Assembly Crisis: A Recap

The power struggle within the Lagos State House of Assembly began in January 2025, when 32 lawmakers voted to remove Obasa alongside ex-Clerk Olalekan Onafeko.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Speaker Mojisola Meranda resigned on Monday, March 3, paving the way for Obasa’s return to power.

Meranda Sworn in as Deputy Speaker

Following her resignation as Speaker, Meranda was nominated and sworn in as the Deputy Speaker of the House, solidifying the new leadership structure.
